HTTP/HTTPS — Part 4: The Mock Interview

What is this?

You've read the postcard, dissected its anatomy, and learned the security and performance internals. Now we sit on the other side of the table. This part is a mock interview: for each question you'll get what they're really asking (the hidden intent), a model answer (what to actually say), and the senior line (the one sentence that signals Staff/Principal-level depth).

The one-line idea: interviewers rarely want a definition — they want to hear you reason about trade-offs and failure modes. Anyone can say "use HTTPS"; a senior engineer says why, what it costs, and what breaks.

Treat the recurring villains and heroes from the earlier parts — head-of-line blocking, statelessness, idempotency, caching, the TLS handshake — as your toolkit. Let's run the gauntlet.
